CAIPS Notes

If you want to know the status of yGreat Canadian Gateway Canada Immigraiton CAIPS notesour Canadian immigration application (permanent residency, work permit, study permit, etc) or the specific reason the Canadian immigration officer refused and denied your application, Great Canadian Gateway can obtain this information on your behalf by accessing your CAIPS / FOSS or GCMS notes.

What Are ‘CAIPS’, ‘FOSS’ and ‘GCMS’ Files?

CAIPS, FOSS and GCMS Files can tell you the status of an application, specific reason for refusal, and other pertinent information regarding a Canadian immigration applicaiton.

CAIPS = ‘Computer Assisted Immigration Processing System’. This is the computer system used by Citizenship & Immigration Canada (CIC). CAIPS holds all the information on the current status of every immigration application being processed by overseas offices (i.e. those outside of Canada), other than new applications at offices which have switched to using the ‘GCMS’ system.

FOSS is the computer system historically used by CIC offices in Canada to track all immigration-related information, but the CAIPS system is being superceded by GCMS.

GCMS = ‘Global Case Management System’. It is a newer computer system that CIC are  presently using at their offices.

Should I Get My File?

There are many situations where you may want to apply for your CAIPS notes. If you have applied to immigrate to Canada then, with our help, you can obtain a copy of your immigration file from CIC and find out what has happened to your application so far, and get an indication of what will happen next with your file, and when.

If you receive a request to attend an interview, you may wish to obtain your notes to determine the reason/s of this request, in order to be well prepared for the interview.

If you feel that your application is taking longer than usual, or if you have not heard from the visa office for a surprisingly long time, then consider requesting your immigration file to check the status of your application and ensure it is on track. Missing letters or documents are often the reason of unexplained delays. For example, CIC may have written to an applicant requesting additional references, educational transcripts or language tests, but the applicant’s address can be incorrect or outdated.

If you feel that the consultant or lawyer that you have hired is not being forthright with you, this is a good way for you yourself, to find out the status of your application.

Also, if you have been denied a visa application in the past; obtaining these reports will show what questions and concerns the immigration officer had when reviewing your application. Thus, you now have the ability to address previous applications issues in your second application.

If you have any other worry about your application status or progress, or are just generally curious as to what has happened so far, then you can obtain your CAIPS notes just to put your mind at rest.
