Express Entry and Skilled Workers
how express entry works
Express Entry umbrellas three federal economic immigration programs for permanent residence
Canadian provinces and territories also uses the Express Entry to recruit candidates for the Provincial Nominee Programs.
Two-Step System for Express Entry applications
Step One: Complete online Express Entry profile where the potential applicant will provide the following information about their:
- work experience,
- language ability,
- education, and
- other details.
Submitting an Express Entry online profile does not guarantee the applicant will be issued an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence.
Step Two: Invitation to apply for Permanent Residence will be issued to highest ranking candidates. Candidates will be ranked against other applicants in the pool using a points-based system called Comprehensive Ranking System. Candidates will be awarded points for:
- a job offer, and/or
- a provincial or territorial nomination, and/or
- skills and experience factors.
If an candidate is invited to apply, they will have sixty (60) days to submit an online application for permanent residence. Citizenship and Immigration Canada will process most applications within six (6) months or less.
Candidates will stay in the pool for up to twelve (12) months. If they do not get an invitation to apply (ITA), the candidates’ profile will automatically be deleted from the pool after twelve (12) months when they may submit another online profile.
